Desert & Mountain Roads

Desert & Mountain Roads

October 28 - November 1, 2020

It’s been a busy fall trying to work on my Iron Butt Association’s National Park Tour and Harley-Davidson’s HOG Ride 365 which has several parts. The National Park Tour will go over the end of the year, but the HOG rides will end at the end of the year.

Colorado High

Colorado High

October 1 - 4, 2020

The annual fall ride! For the last 5 years, we have headed to Colorado to see the fall colors on the first weekend of October. The first time we went the colors were unbelievable in their vibrance. It was also a little rainy which brought out the colors even more. Since then, we have headed back to relive that ride…still chasing that first-time high!

The Grand Ride

The Grand Ride

Aug 27-28, 2020

Once again on the road, what better place could there be?

This is a quick weekend getaway to somewhere cooler and just a nice easy ride, and to relax in the great outdoors. I’m also testing a sheep-skin seat cover, even though my friends are trying to shame me about it. I’m also going back to my leather chaps for the heat. I’ve been wearing nylon adventure-style pants and the heat from the bike engine has really been burning my right leg.

Donner Dinner Party Ride

Donner Dinner Party Ride

August 13-16, 2020

The heat is brutal and with no rain, for months I’ve been looking forward to fall. That said, I realize that summer is quickly fading away, the days are getting shorter and I want to ride more. I started marking my calendar on which weekends I can get away and it is not enough!

Adventure: Just How Tough Are You?

Adventure: Just How Tough Are You?

July 12, 2020

Are you adventurous? Adventurous according to Google, means eager for adventure — an adventure always has an element of the unknown. Being adventurous means you're willing to go where you haven't been before and do things you've never done, even if you don't know how it's going to turn out.

100CCC Insanity

May 14-19, 2020

Note: I waited to post my IBA 100 Coast to Coast to Coast ride until I had made my previous post on journaling. In this post, I have copied my Ride Journal of this ride and you will see that I have altered the format of my Ride Journal to

Journaling Your Ride

Journaling Your Ride

July 3, 2020

The wife and I ride about 20,000 miles a year and like to document our rides, not only with pictures but also with journal-type information. I usually keep a gas log and she has a little notebook or uses the Note App on her iPhone for journaling. Then, at the end of the ride, I put together a ride report, or story of our travels. I’m sure many of you do the same thing.

harley-time's List of Links

Where would we be without the internet? The amount of knowledge that is available sure makes my life better. Whenever I have a question I can search it and have more than enough information to answer that question. So here at harley-time.com, there is a list of goto websites that help me plan rides, check the weather, or read stories from leaders and experts. So, I thought I would share a list of those sites that

Heat’s Up, Headed North

Heat’s Up, Headed North

June 18-21, 2020

I love these spurs of the moment trips. The weekend before we didn’t go anywhere, well only a local trip to Kolob Reservoir near Zion National Park which is spectacular. The news came on and forecast the weather for the next weekend; 100 to 108 degrees Thursday through Sunday. Ugh. I said to the wife lets go north to the Tetons and Yellowstone next weekend, okay was her reply, what a great wife. So, I jumped online and got us some rooms.

Bug Guts Be Gone

Bug Guts Be Gone

June 18, 2020

It’s summer, well almost, in a couple of more days it will be official! With summer ridding the bug guts on the windshield are sure to be there. I remember on a ride over the Million Dollar Highway hitting some short of moth, they left silver-dollar-sized florescent yellow splats on my windshield. Another time, in Georgia, alongside a river, my windshield turned a solid black.

I’ve been a gadget guy my whole life, electronic whizz bangs have imagination since the first home computers came out. I love messing with them and trying to implement them into my life.

COVID-19 Escape

The Iron Butt Association’s web page shares this, “An equinox is an astronomical event in which the plane of Earth's equator passes through the center of the Sun which occurs twice each year, around March 20th and September 23rd. This year, because of Leap Year, it was on March 19th.”

The Iron Butt Association Bun Burner Gold 1500 is a motorcycle ride in which you must ride 1,500 miles in less than 24 hours. This will be a tough ride and will take place on February 29th “Leap Year.” So, we will have an extra day to ride this year!

The Lost Highway 58

The Lost Highway 58

November 14-17, 2019

Another out of Dodge rides. Go find some fun rides and return home cured. The first road I selected is Highway 58 in California. This is a “Top 100 Ride, #95.” Beginning about a dozen miles west of Bakersfield, Hwy 58 is a roller-coaster all the way to the coast.

Summer Ride: Deserts, Mountains, and Oceans

Summer Ride: Deserts, Mountains, and Oceans

July - August 2019

Each summer a group of us, four couples, plan about a two-week motorcycle ride. This year our planned ride is to ride areas or roads that we have not ridden before and it will take in deserts, mountains, and cross oceans…well, at least parts of water that hook directly to

Mission Ride

Mission Ride

March 28-31, 2019

A quick decision was made on Monday for a Thursday thru Sunday trip. Who needs more time than that to plan a ride, make a route, and get a motel room…packing only takes a few minutes since you can’t take much with anyways? Time to go see the Arizona desert country while it’s still cool.

An equinox is an astronomical event in which the plane of Earth's equator passes through the center of the Sun which occurs twice each year, around 20th of March and 23rd of September.  The March equinox is known as the Vernal Equinox, or, in the northern hemisphere, as the Spring Equinox.  The September equinox is known as the Autumnal equinox, or, in the northern hemisphere, as the Fall Equinox.

Border 2 Border

Border to Border IBA Ride

June 21, 2019

This is my second IBA ride, the first was in June 2018. My wife and I have ridden about 150,000 miles over the last six years, but we are new to the IBA. She didn’t want to do the Saddle Sore 1000 with me, but after talking with me and my son about this ride, she was all in for the Border to Border ride. I think knowing we were willing to stop and sleep for a few hours was what tipped the scale.

Ride Around the Lake

Ride Around Lake Michigan

August 2-15, 2018

8/2/18, Thursday. We left at 5:30 am with three-fourths of our group headed for Michigan! We stopped in Cedar at McDonald's, then Filmore for gas. We stopped at Timpanogos Harley and had lunch at Marley’s. We are waiting for the other couple to catch up with us. Didn’t this happen last year too?

My First Saddle Sore 1000

My First Saddle Sore 1000

May 11-12, 2018

When you ride your first Iron Butt Ride you are nervous as to how it all ties together, timing, receipts, moving average, and being on a bike that long. Overall, it was pretty good ride other than, some pretty strong winds on I-70 on the return leg and of course it earned its name of “Saddle Sore”.

Alaska

Alaska

July 6-19, 2017
Our annual summer trip is to ALASKA!
Well, at least to the closest point in Alaska – Hyder, AK, which is near Stewart, British Columbia, Canada. The plan is to ride over to the California coast, ride up the coast as long as we can, then cross into Canada. Prince George, BC is the last big town, then we head northwest to Stewart, BC. Hyder is on a dead-end road about a mile from Stewart.
